mouse touchpad issue

Hello all,

Recently my mouse and touchpad have been acting up. They will be working fine, then I`ll try to highlight a sentence and nothing happens. Sometimes they don`t recognize links and I can`t click on them. I also notice when this happens my background beside the tabs turns color, like a lighter gray.

I`m not very good at diagnostics so bare with me. Thanks in advance.

I tried this, but it says they are current.

You may want to try connecting an external keyboard and/or an external mouse and see if they work fine. If they do, the problem may well be within the attached keyboard itself. Which may only need cleaning out, or it may need replacing.
