The version of Firefox 3 that came with Ubuntu 8.04 x64 was having some serious issues, freezing for no obvious reason etc. I had to revert to Firefox 2 to be able to surf the web and it worked flawlessly so the rest of the PC was not likely to cause the issue.

This has potential to be very hilarious. All it takes is one unpublished exploit, of which I'm sure there are many. Either way it's going to garner way more attention than it honestly deserves.

I don't know about "it's going to garner way more attention than it honestly deserves". Firefox is one of the most used programs world wide and according to w3schools it is the number 1 browser (until you combine all IE versions) with 39.1% of the market in April 08. I think it deserves attention for a major release. Think about all the attention IE7 got.
