Hi! I've been really looking at the msi GS60, I absolutely love it. Thing is, it's got a 860m, which is great for gaming but isn't good for battery life. Here's my question. Do the 850m/840m versions of this laptop (with i5 4200h) have a major battery life difference? I don't really care about gaming performance since I own a good desktop but I would like to be able to play games on low-medium settings on the go. I would play plugged so my question is about battery life when doing simple tasks.
Do you happen to know of any better laptop? I need a 15.6 matte screen with at least an 840m, under 2 kilos and with at least 5h of usable battery life. An SSD would be apreciated but unnecessary.
Right now, I could get an MSI GS60 with an 850m, a 4200h and 128gb+1tb hdd for around 1000 euros. But there are now reviews (on amazon) and I don't know what the battery life would look like.
Thank you very much,
Miquel.

Solution
Dropping down from a GTX 860m (estimated to consume 60w) to a GT 840m (estimated to consume less than 40w) can help. However, the problem is the CPU itself. The laptop uses an Intel H series CPU. Those CPUs are rated at 47w which is similar to the quad core i7 CPUs. The M series CPUs like the i5-4200m are rated at 37w. The U series CPUs like the i5-4210u are rated at 15w.

M series CPUs typically means that laptops will have about 4 - 5 hours of battery life. U series CPU can typically get at least 6 hours of battery life. Laptops with H series CPUs would likely max out at 4 hours. It also depends on how large the battery capacity is though.
