MSI GS72 Stealth Pro-425 -- Is it a good choice?

Hello everyone!

I am looking for a new laptop and this one caught my eye. The laptop I have found is made by MSI and seems to be quite a powerhouse. This laptop is the GS72 Stealth Pro-425. Specs include an i7-6700HQ for the CPU and a GTX 970M 3GB for the GPU; 16GB of RAM and a 17.3" 1080p screen are also included. I have barely seen any reviews for this laptop so that is why I am unsure. Would you all recommend this laptop? If not, is there any other $1500 laptop with good potential gaming/work performance?

For my personal opinion this laptop looks great. It has aluminum construction and is also very thin and light. The specs add a lot more to the potential.

Solid choice. You buying from a retailer or boutique? Only asking because upgrading to a PCIe SSD instead of the SATA will dramatically decrease your load times.

I think I might just get it from Newegg. Is there a better way to do it? If so I am all ears!

2 1/2 to 3 hours on the battery. Less if running on a maxed load

That was my fear. I guess that isn't too uncommon though. Most laptops with dedicated cards suffer from bad battery life syndrome. I bet with the correct power settings one could do some light work/studying without using too much battery. Plus, it is difficult to find study/work areas without a power outlet nearby.

Yeah, Newegg is a little restricted as far as that goes. I might check out Xoticpc to see if I can't fiddle with some customizations. Another point is that this laptop is still very new. One way I can tell is because of the massive lack of reviews on the internet. I'll be waiting a while before I actually commit to a new laptop so I'll have to go from there.

I just checked Xoticpc and saw that they do not have the model I want. I like the 17.3" in 1080p with the GTX 970M, they only have the 4K version which is $500 dollars more... that's a whole extra paycheck for me... lol. Again, I might end up going to something else depending on how patient I feel.

Man, computers are never simple are they? Too many choices... I should choose another hobby, lol.

Same CPU and GPU. You can upgrade to the 16GB of RAM and add a 256GB PCIe SSD while staying in your $1500 price range. For an extra $65, you can upgrade the screen to G-SYNC. Just don't forget to add Windows unless you have a copy to install already.

Yeah, they can get complicated. A lot of people get intimidated by all the options when customizing. If you need any help or have any questions, just ask. Happy to help.

I have an MSI GT70 2QD Dominator and I love it. However, ask yourself if you are actually going to be using it as a laptop. Personally, I regret getting a laptop and would have preferred getting a desktop instead.

Depends on your needs. If you spend most of your time gaming at a desk or at least at home, then desktop is 100% the way to go. However, if portability is a priority, there is no choice. I haven't seen my house in almost a month, so laptop is my only gaming option.

Yeah, I understand that aspect. However, I will be going to college soon and I feel as though I may not be able to bring my 50 pound ultra+ tower desktop with me.

I'm not that familiar with Sager. The reason why I like MSI is because I have bought many of their products and never been dissatisfied.

I might have to research them a little bit.

I've owned this exact laptop for a couple months now and I can tell you it's definitely an awesome choice, especially for the price. I came across this thread while researching the possibility of overclocking the hardware included, just to push to the limits a little.
