Who cares about the story... FPS games are for multi-player frag fests. The single player option is "merely" a training style effort to get used to the maps and controls.

Something to keep in mind - MW2 vs BFBC2 argument is irrelevant since BFBC2 does not have a single player. It has a scripted 5 hour offline tutorial.

I do, as does everyone who played CoD 4, loved the story, and wanted more from MW2. And that's ignoring Half-Life, Max Payne, even Star Trek: Elite Force, all FPS games that married great stories to great gameplay, and were better for it.

I really don't understand you people; I thought MW2 had a great story. Watching DC burn was pretty powerful to someone who's been there a couple times.

[citation][nom]AMW1011[/nom]The story is definitely weak in MW2, the story has been suffering in so many games recently. Even Metro 2033, based on a great novel, had a disappointing story, not the novels fault it was just told poorly in the game. Though, Metro 2033 made up for that in atmosphere to a certain extent.Weak stories and short single player (5 hour campaign in Splinter Cell Convictions, anyone?) are the factors that are killing a lot of games for me, mostly console games.I'm sorry, pretty visuals and decent gameplay do not make up for a poor story line, because under-neath it all I have to actually care.[/citation]

I agree, seems most companies now are focusing way too much on "cool graphics" than having a fun gameplay with good story.
most of the new games are doom 3 all over again.

I didnt mind MW2 but it just seemed to me that you had to rush through every level of mw2 as fast as you could! Not like the first when you could really sneak about and think about your next move.

I totally agree with Mr. Morgan. In fact I just posted very nearly the same comments in regards to the article about more people leaving activision. And no, I did not read this article first. The single player campaign in MW2 was terribly jumbled up and did not make any sense.

I seriously don't get what the hype is about. CoD is among the worst games ever. Oh sure it rakes up tons of money, so it is a success in that respect, but how does it hold up to actual games like Half-Life, Fallout, System Shock 2, X-COM...

In a year, nobody will remember MW2. In 10 years, nobody will dust off their copy and play MW2 for old time's sake.

He is absolutely right, there is no story whatsoever. And once MW3 comes out (you know it will), MW2 copies will join the ET: The Extraterrestrial cartridges in a landfill.

I wouldn't say MW2 has a bad story, only a bad storyLINE... there are too many "blank spots". When i played it trough the first time, i was like: WTH?! how did we get here?!... played it trough the 2nd time: Why did Shepard kill GHOST?!?!?! this is crap

Well i had to take a look on google for this. When i finally realized what really happened at the "blank spots" in MW2 it was quiet amazing... almost as good as Dragon Age's story.

However, i gotta agree that the story in MW2 is a bit messed up... they should have told me directly what's happening like in CoD4

I mean, do people really buy MW2 for the story? It is the Online aspect that sells the game. Most people will only play the story once. That is what I did in the first one.

Very true article and statements. Ive been constantly getting dissapointed from games on their story line. Multiplayer is fun for a while but quickly gets boring. I think MW2 is the first COD that i got bored of insanely quickly. IW is not a company i am going to be buying from anytime soon. They took out all major features of the PC version and focused more on xbox gamers than anyone else. Also, they focused DEFINETELY more on the MP than the SP. The campaign was indeed very fun and exciting and i loved it but story was random and not very well constructed. What happened to GREAT story lines where you connected to your characters and made you feel like you were IN the game?
FFX, Dragon Age Origins, MassEffect,MassEffect2,Oblivion, Fallout3, Kingdom Hearts, to name a few with great stories. Developers are now coming out with countless shooting games and get very boring easily.

[citation][nom]PhantomTrooper[/nom]MW2 got a writer's guild award? WHY? It is quite possibly the worst game story I have ever played through. How would the Russians have enough strength to invade the U.S. just after a civil war? How did the Russian planes get all the way across the united states without being seen? Do they have invisibility cloaks? I don't think so. Crysis had a good story but only ok story telling. Crysis Warhead has a great story and awesome story telling. The third person cut scenes really added to the story.[/citation]

Did you even play MW2? It seems, from your post, that you did not play the game. I would suggest that you play and understand what the story is about, instead of jumping on the MW2 "hate-wagon".

I am certainly not saying that MW2 was the best video game ever, but it was and is a good game. Russia could invade the U.S., but they would not get far past the coast, as just about every redneck and hick would start gunning them down. While the story might seem a little ridiculous, it fits into what it is there for: Entertainment.

From reading the story, Richard Morgan is upset that he did not create a game that has been successful as MW and MW2. Instead of trashing your competitor, congratulate them and then figure out a way to best them. That seems to be an ability that many people have lost today.

Funny, I do not believe it is computers I am playing against when I play CoD4 multiplayer. How old is that game again? I still go back about two to four times a year and re-play the CoD4 single-player and I have played the CoD: MW2 single-player many times. I am done this mostly for the achievements, but also a couple of times just because I want to take advantage of the product I paid for.

I am looking forward to MW3 just so that we can put to rest the fates of Soap and Captain Price. This could have been done in MW2 and it was a rather cheap move by IW, but that could have been at the behest of Activision.

I just hope that the Modern Warfare line does not turn into game version of 24(the show), where I was rooting for the death of Jack Bauer's wife by the end of the first season.
