My acer 5920 laptop turns on but wont start up

with charger, with battery, without either, however i try and boot up my acer 5920 the same thing happens, it powers on, hard drive light comes on, cd rom makes noises, then nothing, power stays on but no more action, hard drive is making fab noise but not booting, ideas?

should be fan noise, if anyone has any ideas i could always email small vid file to them.
laptop hasnt been dropped or anything, was fine when last used 2 months ago

Try connecting an external monitor to see if it's the screen. Fan only comes on when it gets hot. I may be something more serious though.

it doesnt boot up at all, its not that it boots but screen blank, hard drive light goes off, but sounds like a fan on but not main one, not getting too hot. it just turns on, start to boot for couple seconds then stops
