My alienware 17x powers off suddenly a few seconds after start up. if I unplug the power cable it won't start up at all.

So I removed the battery entirely and it started up.

You have a failing battery. Get a new one from Alienware directly. Counterfeit batteries can cause permanent damage to the laptop.
