my computer has speaker connections pon the card, is this standard 3.5mm jacks with +ve to centre and -ve to outer

this means that the center on this connector is a positive voltage one and the outer is a negavite voltage one so respect polarity when you connect something to it also post the name and model of that board whrere you connect the speaker .
