My desktop can't connect to internet

I'm at the end of my tether.
I bought a secondhand desktop, with AMD FX 6300, Radeon HD 7870 and ASrock asrock 970de3/u3s3 mobo.
So I cleared the harddrive and intalled windows 7.
I installed Sweex LW312 wireless network card and I had the slowest internet ever, I thought it was because it was old. Then I tried to connect the internet via a ethernet cable, but nothing happened. So I bought a new usb network adapter: the TP-Link TL-WN821N. Installed all the drivers and tried it out, but it couldn't connect, so I tried troubleshooting but that did nothing.
I went online on my laptop and searched for solutions, I then found out I needed to update my drivers via Device Manager by searching the IDs online. Did all that and still I can't connect to the internet. I'm out of ideas, please help me

Okay wait, on a clean imaged system, but is the Ethernet detected (i.e. drivers installed?) under Device Manager?. If not (rare that it would not), then you would have to go to Asrock website and download the drivers to a thumb drive then plug the thumb drive into the desktop to install them.

IF the ethernet IS installed, then connect the laptop via ethernet, make sure the ethernet works on the laptop, then plug it into the desktop. Your saying by following these specific steps that the desktop does NOT get Internet still? IF SO, then the 'secondhand' desktop is 'secondhand broke'.

Ok I searched the IDs on the web and downloaded drivers from other sites, now that you mentioned the ASrock site, which should be logical to download the drivers from... xD, I downloaded the drivers from there and now internet via ethernet is working perfectly. But I can't seem to connect the internet via WiFi... thanks for your help though because I have SOMEthing now

Did you try ALL the drivers from Asrock for that motherboard? There will be some for the Wifi as well. I also suggest the following:

Did you install all Windows Updates? Including options except BING? Check them and repeat till ALL are installed.

Download and run Slim Drivers, install all the latest updates but you don't need to reboot until you do the last update

Remove whatever AV your using and go to www.filehippo.com and download AVAST! or AVG and do a full system scan - this repeatedly has resolved alot of people issue relying on MS Essentials.

Download Malwarebytes do a full system scan (AV doesn't pick up alot of malware) - this resolved almost ALL other similiar posts to date as most had Malware the AV didn't pick up.

Repeat the AV/Malware scans till the system comes up clean.

I updated every windows update, updated drivers with Slimdrivers, ran scans with AVAST! and MalwareBytes and everything seems to work just fine Don't know how but mkaaaay. MalwareBytes found 4 threats though.

Basically you patched all the holes inside, you removed the stuff you kept reinfecting with, and once you removed them nothing was in the way you can connect without issue. Congrates. now just remeber to scan once a week to once a month manually with Malwarebytes, and AVAST! will alert you to any software (Java, Flash, etc.) updates needed, just do them and youw ill be fine.

ANSWER: My friend, I had the same situation, it would come and go, did tons and tons of searching and...thank God I found my problem after all the ip4, ip6, all kinds of starting and stopping things ect. After a fresh install of Windows 7 last night and the system was flying like it should, yeahh at 56mbps...it stopped again!!! "No Internet Connection" You got to be kidding me, this thing is fresh..I started rolling back different drivers that I had started loading and then it was back, hmmm. I started re-loading them and checking and when I got to the "USB 3.0" controller....there it was!!! When ever I would plug something into it, an external drive, flash drive or God forbid my "Wireless" adapter, dead in the water again!! What....after all the searching, I never heard a word about this, you got to be kidding me. I did a little searching on it and oh yeah....they know I actually found a bulletin from "INTEL" stating that the 2.4ghz wireless adapters could have a problem functioning since the USB 3.0 unit produces a "NOISE" or even a frequency that interferes with these things!!! You got to be kidding me, oh yeah!! I even found an HP post on it but...really not much more then that at all!! SILENCE...ridiculous, they need to fix their hot 3.0 USB flash in the pan system. I just purchased a 4 port one and am waiting on a "card reader" with another 4 ports!! Oh my goodness, what a waste. They seem to stop broadcasting after a minute or two of pulling the connection but that kills surfing while trying to do anything with the port. I couldn't believe it but thank God I found it.
