My headphones are barely out of the headphone jack, and my speakers are playing when I want my headphones to play

I'm using an ASUS PC and I am putting my headphones in, but there is still like a millimeter of space between it. And I press play on the music and it comes out of the speakers not the headphones.

Is not all the way in then. Sometimes they are a little tough to plug in.
