my htc is not powering on or charging

i put my cell on charging (it was at 36%) and it was fine but after half an hour i checked it it was switched off. ever since then it is not switching on or charging. ive tried other chargers as well and tried charging it from my laptop but no use... the charging light does not turn on and the phone is still not switching on.
HELP!!!!

-Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then press and hold the POWER button.
-Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
-Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.

I believe this method works for all android installed phones but I could be wrong, info taken from the HTC website. Note that this may erase information from your phone depending on settings.
If this is not a solution for you, please provide your phone model?
