My Laptop Charger sometimes stops working (led is off)

Ok so sometimes my laptop charger stops working and i have to unplug it and plug it to make it work again is this ok or i have to buy a new charger? This happened 4 times now and the laptop is about 7 years old. it's Asus G74Sx

From what you dexcribe, i'd recommend you to not using that device any more as there is a real risc for a bad electric contact point- which in turn may build up heat and make the device start burning.
