My laptop won't recognize the subwoofer in my 2.1 speakers.

In fact, it doesn't even acknowledge I have 2.1 speakers. The left and right speakers are working fine through the laptop. With that said, the speakers themselves are in working order as tested through an alternate media device. I've tried reinstalling the Realtek audio drivers, but that was a bust. I'm kinda outta my depth in this area, so any help would be nice.

Operating System: Windows 8.1
Laptop: Toshiba Satellite C55D-A
Speakers: Logitech z323

Just tell the Realtek that it is a 2.1. It makes no difference anyway. If the subwoofer doesn't work, you might have no bass in the source file. Highly compressed mp3 files typically have this problem.

2.1 is just 2.0 with the bass sent to a different speaker, but that is not done by the laptop, the crossover is in the speakers. You may have the sub unplugged or turned to low if it has a separate control.
