My lg tv turns on and has sound but the light is dim and I can't turn the light up?

I turn on my lg tv and it's flashes but when I fully turns on it's a dim picture and can't see it all the way. I tired everything setting, I don't know what to do can some one help please !

If it's an LCD or LED-LCD sounds like the backlight is bad. If it's a plasma then it could be a lot of things. If it's rear projection TV then a bad lamp and or ballast would be likely.
