My new laptop is extremely slow and laggy

So i JUST bought a new hp laptop the other day, 8gb of ram, intel core i5, and 1tb hard drive, but its slower then my old hp laptop when it comes to performance wise and it was worse in every aspect than this laptop, so i just wannanknow whats happening? It runs some games and video incredibly laggy and Its not the internet both were connected wireless to the internet and the old one can run it all fine
