Install the new RAM correctly into the slot but don't force it. Install in slot#1 and check whether the system boots. Then Install it in slot#2 and check the booting again.

However, why do you want to use the new 2 GB alone if it works as together 4GB in a laptop that supports upto 8 GB? 4 GB will be better in all ways than a 2 GB.
