My guess is that spider crack caused the gas that WAS contained in it to no longer be contained -- See how a plasma TV works -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_display#How_plasma_displays_work

I think a new screen would be required.

There are stories on the web about that problem with Samsung plasma TVs .. The ones on the web don't end well for the consumer ..

New screen I'm afraid. I repaired my brother in laws 55" Samsung plasma after one of the kids threw something at the screen. It had sound and would work normally but no picture. New screen solved the problem.
