My satellite L745-S4210 will not charge the battery

My Toshiba Satellite Model L745-S4210 will not charge my new battery.
Sometimes computer recognizes battery plugged in sometimes it does not. Even when battery is recognized, it will not charge. I'm trying to update BIOS & can't because computer tells me to insert & charge battery. Please help. How do I charge my battery.

The new battery, is it OEM or an after market battery? I ask because if it is after market it is completely possible that while it says it works with/for your device, it really doesn't. At least not correctly. This happens way more often than you might think.
