my screen is overly bright to bright cant turn contrast down is it a fault i can fix

Sony bravia 32ins has a really high contrast screen so bright cant seen picture properly tried contrast settings but still crazy bright . Mate said i can fix it with tin foil????

Did you try adjusting the brightness too?
