So I'm pretty sure my brother in law sabatoged my laptop before moving out of state. There was nothing wrong with it, then the next time I took it out the whole screen was broke. It looks like someone tried to snap it in half, even the plastic frame has a crack right in the middle of it. So when I turn it on I see all the cracks and a bunch of black marks but behind that I can still read what is in the screen on the parts of the screen that aren't broken. So my question is what part of the screen do i actually have to replace? Do I need to replace the glass and lcd or Just the glass? How can I tell?

Which laptop model?
If there are black marks or spots then you will need to replace the LCD screen.

Look for user parts on eBay, they will sell you the whole panel, the whole lid.
