My speakers aren't being recognized by my PC after I reset it.

I reset my HP Pavillion HPE the other day and The sound won't work. It says no speakers or headphones are plugged in, but I have a set of Logitech S-120 multimedia speakers plugged in. I checked that I had set it up correctly, and I did, But the computer won't recognize it. Have I done something wrong?

If your external speakers/headphones aren't working, try the following...

1. Go to "Control Panel".
2. Click on "Sound".
3. Make sure you are on the "Playback" tab.
4. Click on the device you are trying to fix.
5. Now click the "Configure" button and follow the prompts. (Be sure you also click the "Test" button.)
6. Once that is complete, click the "Properties" button.
7. When you are done with your changes, in "Properties", click "Apply" and then "OK".
8. Then click "OK", again, on the main "Sound window".

NOTE: If they don't show in there, right click on the white background of that window and make sure both "Show disabled devices" and "Show disconnected devices" is checked.

Should you still not see the them, right click on the "Speakers", only while the headphones/speakers are plugged in, and disable them. This may resolve the issue. Be sure you test that the internal speakers work again, when you unplug the headphones/speakers.

I got to step four, but I can't configure anything. It says because there's "nothing plugged in" that there is nothing to configure. I'm signed in as an Administrator and all that jazz, but nothing's working. Thank you for trying to help, though. I'm very appreciative.

Does it do this no matter what kind of headphones or speakers are plugged in? If so, and you are connecting via the 3.5mm port, then it may need replacing. Or you can try using a 3.5mm to USB adapter and connect that way. Which usually gives less problems.

I fixed it. I Manually installed the updated drivers for the system, by using a (very unhelpful) app called Driver Easy. I updated the missing drivers and then installed them manually, so my sound works now. thanks for all the help, though. I really appreciate it.
