I have a "Game boy player" for the N64 which is similer to the one for
the Super Nintendo. It is made by an unauthorized company called
"Innovation", and it's really cool because it uses the ENTIRE screen to
display the game. The only drawback is that for some reason it doesn't
play the actual sounds from the game boy cartridge, instead there is
some cheesy repetitive music no matter what game you play.

Were there any other units made for the N64 to play game boy games?

Aside from Nintendo's produced Wide Boy (which were available only to
game reviewers so they could get screen captures of GB games), yours is
the only one produced.

They also produced one for the PSX which plugged into the expansion port
where the GameShark typically attached. Same thing tho', no sound.
