Does it do it with all CDs ? Probably laser failure.
If it's selective, you might get away with cleaning the laser lens (assuming the player is out of warranty).
Soak a cotton wool bud stick with gentle solvent like isopropanol (or alcohol like gin, vodka) and holding the bud stick by the far end gently clean the lens -- then reverse the the stick and dry off the lens.
Or you could buy a lens cleaning disc, which will save you disassembling the player.
Sadly, once a player starts giving problems with discs it's probably on the way out and repairs are prohibitive. The good news is that players are pretty cheap secondhand so a flea market, garage sale whatever is worth a visit.
