Every couple of weeks a post on AVSForum gets through with the acronym
"COFDM" without being deleted. Usually they will try saying the "C" word
but in this case COFDM came through intact. At least for now.

"Shots from the cars are solid." ...."The microwave from the cars is now
digital COFDM. What a difference!"

"Fox HD feeds all look about the same (KTXL-HD Sacto, 88 and 89 via D*
and WJBK Detroit via *C). HD and 5.1 very good. SD shots so-so.
As expected, many cameras are SD, but at least they are maintaining 16:9
with them. Wasn't too long ago, when they switched to an SD camera, the
picture popped down to 4:3. Very annoying. Shots from the cars are
solid. Again, not too many years ago, what few camera cars they had were
full of multi-path and breakup. The microwave from the cars is now
digital COFDM. What a difference!

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all benefit from COFDM like the rest of
the world? The US is stuck in painsville trying to make do with
technology that belongs on the scrapheap of history.

Interesting. Too bad the shots from the cars aren't HDTV.

Rcliff's screen capture yesterday (posted on 2/20) of John Andretti's #14
reminds me of your business plan.

You are now on record as being in favor of watching DTV while driving
cars at NASCAR competitive speeds.

You are a moron.

Actually DVB-H COFDM has been tested at Mach-1 with total success so you
can watch DTV in an F-18. DVB-T COFDM was developed so that it could be
adjusted to work at various speeds and with intense Doppler so that it
would work on Europe and Asia's high speed trains and I guess for the
kids on the Autobahn.

A few years ago I marveled at my wife reading in the passenger seat
while my two kids read quietly in the back seat as we traveled at 110
mph in the rain in Germany. They could have been watching DTV today in
many parts of Germany.

We don't want any of that stuff here in the US though. We like big ugly
made over trucks that flip over when they hit a curb and whose front
wheels fall off for no apparent reason.

He wants COFDM to be used for DTV transmission in the US. This is yet
another one of his moronic attempts to exagerate the usefulness of
COFDM. If OTA DTV is transmitted with COFDM the general population will
be able to receive it for viewing while driving at NASCAR competitive
speeds.

He has no use for HD. Why he keeps posting in an HD ng is beyond me.

It wasn't digital.

At 110 MPH is will take about 45 minutes to get out of range of the
average US OTA broadcast. Germany and the US have very different OTA
broadcast patterns. The US has HDTV OTA, Germany doesn't.

Then we'd be stuck with technology where the "trimuphs" involve broadcasting
to *one* receiver from less than a mile away. Wow, that would really make
OTA TV in the US become popular.

I still see the helicopter. I don't know what beaming a microwave signal
off a helicopter to a trailer has to do with OTA. If its too windy the
chopper doens't fly and there is no in car camera. No mutipath issues. No
curvature of the earth issues This is not OTA.

You still see the helicopter but I don't think they need it for
acquiring a COFDM signal from the cars. The helicopter can have its own
ENG (Electronic News Gathering) COFDM link for transmitting aerial shots
of the racetrack but the COFDM transmitters in the race cars are able to
transmit directly to a ground based receiver.

If you have other information I would like to hear it.

How? Short haul, point to point transmission is related to OTA
broadcasting to a widespread area, how?

This one, too.
