Hello All!

I'll keep this short and sweet. I'm purchasing an away from home (I'll be gone for three months for work) gaming laptop.

I need it to be able to play games like: Fallout, BF, CoD, ESO, Skyrim, etc...And preferably on High keeping at least 60fps minimum (1080p).

Here are my two choices.

What I would prefer (bigger screen, and cheaper, but has 970m)
MSI 17.3" GS72 Stealth Pro-425 : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154187

What I would get if needed (really want the bigger screen, but can't afford one with the gtx 1060 in it) MSI - 15.6" Laptop - Intel Core i7: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-15-6-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-1tb-hard-drive-128gb-solid-state-drive-aluminum-black/5515003.p?id=bb5515003&skuId=5515003

This first one has a bigger screen and is around $150 dollars cheaper, but no 1060.

Do I really need a laptop with a 1060, or will I be fine with only a 970?

Thanks!

I think you'll be more than happy with the GS72 Pro-425. I think the lengthy review I typed up for this laptop on Newegg's site will be super helpful to you for deciding; http://www.newegg.com/Product/SingleProductReview.aspx?ReviewID=4725723

The 1060 does seem more attractive in the slight long run, but lets be honest here, "future-proofing" is a very loose, undefined word when speaking of computer hardware. The industry is constantly evolving. For the titles you're mentioning however, the 3GB GDDR5 for the GS72 might not be enough for maximum settings. From the few games I've played, I've had no problems at maximum settings. The display on the laptop is absolutely flawless however and I haven't noticed the refresh rate to be an issue...

I would suggest you to buy laptop with 1060 just to get more future proof device. We don't often buy device like laptop so investing in the one which is also future proof is important but if you can't afford then the one with 970 is even not a bad choice. It would be able to suffice all your requirements and it will be able to run all new games for next couple of years.

I really need the bigger screen size. I think that's what it's coming down to. However, I believe the 15inch has a 120hz dizplay...making it even tougher. Anyone else have an opinion?

MSi puts a ton of time, effort, engineering and design into their laptops, so whichever choice you choose, you won't be disappointed.

Definitely 1060. I paid that bit extra for the top laptop GPU at the time and it paid off as 2 years later I am still playing BF4 on medium/high with no less than 60FPS.
