Need advice for sound system Xbox One on PC monitor.

I purchased an Xbox this past week I play on a 24" Acer with 3 ms over a TV. The problem is for my PC gaming I primarily use a headphone system. The Xbox apparently hates this as I can't use a headset to hear the game and voice chat on Live.

I'm been looking into an audio system I can use on both my PC and Xbox (or just the Xbox at the very least) I don't know much about said Xbox aside that it has HDMI and Optical audio ports but no audio jacks I had to use my monitor's audio jack to hear ANY in-game sound from Destiny this weekend. And It. Was. Horrible.

I just want a little thump, nothing fancy that wouldn't be too difficult to hookup under the $150ish range. It's going in a 12x6" office, I don't want to shake the rooom.

That Logitech you linked would work great for the PC but you need something with an Optical input to get audio with the XB1.These are pretty hard to find for computer speakers.

You have three options:

1. I found a pair that is discontinued but has an optical input. http/ . DON'T look at the new price...Go to the other sellers link, there are some used for $100 and new for $150. Only one input port though so you would have to switch it out every time or find a splitter (http/).

2. Get a headset that has a signal processor like this one (http/) which will work with PC and XB1 (again you will either need a splitter or unplug alot, which you don't want to do often with these Optical cables)

3. Look for a Home Theater in a Box (HTIB) that has a 2 dedicated inputs and at least one output for HDMI audio. The problem here is a bunch of wires and you need to make sure that the receiver has Optical audio input or can process audio through HDMI.

I lied, there might be a 4th option. You could also look for one of those speaker bars with subwoofers. They usually have HDMI passthrough with audio and an optical input.

I have the logitech z506 and it sounds great. The bass pounds hard the the surrounds are clear. I have had them for 1.5 years.

^^ That sounds like a better bet. I have the Logitech Z5300 from literally 11 years ago and they STILL work great!

Okay, I don't really know what to expect with a converter, it makes me a little nervous. Are there any decent systems reasonably priced with the optical already on it?

That will work but my guess is the quality will lack a bit compared to an actual surround set not to mention that is a very budget soundbar..It will work though you will have to again switch audio cables.

The other question is how do you plan to mount the sound bar? They are meant to be the distance a person sits away from a TV not PC monitor. Not sure how that would effect the "surround".

Reviews of that converter seem great and there were a few Xbox one users who did what you are doing.

I think you should take Iamsoda's advice or consider a slightly better sound bar and figure out how it would sound so close to you.

Very true, never thought of distance, it would be a little further away then a normal PC, maybe 1-2 feet. But again it doesn't need to rock the house, I just want what I would otherwise have on my ears right in front of me, bass included.

I guess a sound bar made for a 46" TV wouldn't be the most optimal choice. I've got some thinking to do.

A sound bar is good, but definitely not the same as a true surround system.
