Question Need Advice on new Laptop

I have been a fan of HP Spectre x360 laptops since December 2017. I have had a terrible experience with a 2022 version running Win 11. Several returns to HP to fix screen blotches, including a replacement x360 that had the same screen blotches. Is anyone aware of this issue with the Spectre x360 laptop?

Any advice on what other brand with similar specs might be a better option?

What is your budget and general uses for a laptop?

Like any brand, there will be the occasional hiccup. With modern screens, blotchiness is rather unusual. Was this something you worked with HP on resolving?

Is size important? Portability?

Well, I guess three returns and repairs with HP counts working with HP.
The HP Spectre x360 has everything I need. I watch movies, play board games, manage seven security cameras, read Kindle books, listen to Spotify, etc. The x360 has 16 GB memory and 1 TB of storage. I try to keep the cost below $1,500.

I would suggest one of these over HP just from use of many Dell laptops/notebooks over the years.

Thanks for the advice. Just thinking, I never use my laptop in tablet mode. Sooo, what would be your advice on a simple laptop?

You don't need to spend anywhere near $1500 to get the basic functionality you described earlier.

MacBook Air. Might want to upgrade storage, might not but it should come under 1000. If you can wangle the back to school education deal you get free AirPods and 100 off.

Not a bad choice if the user is willing to change to an entirely new "ecosystem". Regardless of the cries of foul from many, Apple designs solid products that last for years.

Wouldn’t really say you have to move to the entire ecosystem, a Mac can be used on its own as a very capable machine. They’re just a very good laptop that does what 95% of people want to do for the price. Especially now they’ve dropped the price back to 999 and bumped the RAM.

Learning how to use a Mac effectively has a learning curve. That was the reference and point of the previous comment.

Maybe a few people mention the screen blotch issue on the 2022 Spectre x360, so you’re not alone. If you’re looking for something similar in style and specs, I’d check out the Dell XPS 13 Plus or the Lenovo Yoga 9i. Both have great build quality, beautiful displays, and haven’t had the same screen problems in my experience.

Yeah, I would not care to switch to Apple. I don't like Apple's "Apple way or the highway" policy.

Geek, do you have any suggestions for brands other than Dell?

Personally, I would also be okay (if my money) with Asus or even Lenovo. When I get a new laptop, I wipe all the bloatware/OS install and install the OS from scratch (clean install), this way I don't have to be concerned as much over the software that eventually gets installed and used on the system.

My wife has been happy with HP, but me not so much.

I have an Asus Q324 UA from November 2016. Still working, but I haven't kept it up to date, and it is not Win11 capable. I also have an HP Spectre x360 - 13t Touch Laptop from December 2017. I don't remember why I switched to HP so soon. That old HP is still in use. I replaced the original battery, and the second battery now gets only three hours on a full charge. It is not Win 11 capable, but I still use it as a standby.

Anyway, thanks for all of the advice. I have a tough decision to make.
