Need advice on surround sound

I have a Denon receiver and speakers packed away because I am now renting and dont want to have wires all over the floor.was thinking about buying a sound bar but seems like a waste of money.any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Ange

I see your worries! You could always buy second hand? Or some of the cheaper soundbars now do sound very good for the money. Soundbars have come into their own in recent times with many not even needing a subwoofer.

The choice is essentially yours though.

It is a shame you dont want to use your Denon setup, but i totally understand the reasons behind it.

i do not see why you can not use your denon speaker system. buying another system when you have one already is a waste certainly.

as long as you give speaker placement some thought, you should be able to hide the wires fine. routing on the top or front edge of baseboard moulding with or without the wire trays would work fine. or, if its a carpeted floor you can likely route it tucked into the carpet/baseboard joint. any of this is removable with minimal touch up work.

You could set up the Denon as a 2.1 or 3.1 system.
If you place the receiver close to the TV there won't be long cables to deal with. If you wanted to set up the surrounds you could get a wireless adapter that would eliminate the need for the long rear speaker cables.
Cheap soundbars are barely worth it on a TV but for music they are horrible. You system will also sound better at low volumes so will potentially be less of an issue with neighbors.
