My friend just bought a Bose acoustimass 10 serie 2, it's a 5.1 system. Now we can't connect this to the DVD player or anything because it uses some kind of cable which I think needs an amplifier.

Here is the manual: http://www.bose.ca/pdf/customer_service/owners/og_am6_10.pdf

but more importantly, here is a picture of the rear of the subwoofer:

In case we need an amplifier, I'd like to know what's a proper amplifier for not too much money.

We live in Canada.

Thanks for all suggestions.

hmm, i am assuming the DVD player only has an optical or co-axial output?

why oh why did you let your friend buy bose by the way. they have a terrible reputation.

still, from what i can see they use simple RCA mono plugs yes?

what output does your dvd players have?

Well he got the system as new on eBay for like 350$, it sells for well over a 1000$ so it was a killer deal nonetheless.

The DVD player has optical, super video, regular yellow-white-red RCA cables and DVD green-blue-white (something like that) outputs. I just don't get how you're supposed to convert any of those outputs into 5.1 sound.

He just bought an Harman Kardon amplifier and I'll go mess around at his house tomorrow and see if I can get things working. I'll be back with more details if it doesn't work.
