First of all, this is my first post here, so please excuse me if I'm posting in a wrong place!

I need to buy a new laptop which I will be using mainly for .Net development. I will also need SQL Server Express (but might not install it on the laptop as well).

I was thinking about a laptop with something like this:
CPU: Intel Core i7 (4th generation)
Ram: At least 8Gb
HDD: Preferably SSD for Windows and some 500Gb (or more) for data.
VGA: No idea here, but I want to connect 2 external monitors for sure when at my office.

As a screen size, I was thinking about 14" or 15" since I will need my laptop for travelling as well so I don't want something which is way too heavy.

For my budget, I was thinking somewhere £1,200 but I would increase my budget if I find a perfect fit for my description. To be honest, I've already taken a look at the Lenovo y50-70 however I'm not yet 100% convinced that this is the best option for me.

Any help, would be greatly appreciated.

Try this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152554

It has a High end Intel i7--4800 2.7GHz
17.3in Full 1920x1080 HD Screen
Nvidia GTX870M 3GB VRAM (The Graphics card would work good with external monitors)
8GB RAM
No SSD but since this laptop is under your budget you could definitely pick one up and install by yourself
1TB HDD 7200RPM

This would be a way better alternative to the Lenovo Y50 since it packs a gtx870m with an additional GB of Video Ram (Nice to have for dual monitor setups like at your office)
Price: $1199 USD
$1058 EURO

If you want to get out of your budget alittle bit and get something even better
http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GT70-DOMINATOR-2293-9S7-1763A2-2293-17-3-Inch/dp/B00O4ORQ3C
This is the current gen and has a upgraded GTX970M with more power than the 870M
It ends up being $1322 EURO $1499USD

Thanks a lot for this reply, really helpful! Both look interesting in terms of specs but I might reduce the screen size to 15" to be more portable. Will definitely look more into these.

I would say dell or lenovo are your best bet as they make the best business laptops what have various ports. Just look for a laptop that has an i7 and 8 - 16 gigs or ram. Don't bother getting a laptop with a discrete graphics card as you will not need it as SQL is not gpu intensive. Maybe something along the lines of a dell lattitute 15
