Need Help Choosing Between Toshiba & Sony Vaio

Hi all,

I'm looking to get a laptop for university, so schoolwork, casual gaming, maybe some graphic design. I'm wondering which laptop would be better:

Toshiba L70D
17.3" Laptop
AMD A10-5750M
AMD Radeon HD 8650G
750GB HDD
8GB RAM
Windows 8

vs

Sony Vaio 15E
15.5" Laptop
Intel Core i5-3337U
Intel HD Graphics 4000
750GB HDD
8GB RAM
Windows 8

The graphics on the AMD will be stronger than the standard intel 4000 graphics, but I have a toshiba and it's a piece of crap so take that for what it's worth.

The Toshiba is quad-core while the Sony Vaio is dual-core, do you think that might make up for it?

The i5 is dual core but double threaded so it acts like a quad core, the intel will most likely be faster than the AMD as a straight processor but for gaming purposes still be slower. When I said my toshiba was a piece of crap I meant the build quality, I have sent the thing in for repairs twice and still have the same issue of it constantly crashing.
