Yes but after it boots it goes to the dark screen with only the cursor visible
If you are not even able to boot into Windows safe mode to restore to an earlier point the only option left might be to go ahead and do a system recovery. The system recovery however will wipe out all the data on the unit. If you have critical files you can try connecting the drive to a different system and moving the files out. To start the system recovery simply press the F9 key during boot up and follow the onscreen instructions. If you need more details on that feel free to send me a direct email at cl-fred@asus.com
Another thing you can try is to see if you can open task manager CTRL-ALT-DEL if that opens TASK Manager, try NEW TASK and enter EXPLORER, which may bring the desktop up...if it does then try running SFC /SCANNOW from the command prompt
