Need to replace my Dad's AT&T "dumbphone"

So I need to get my Dad a new cell phone. he refuses to get a new one even though his lcd screen has a broken backlight.

Anyways, can I just grab any unlocked cell phone off amazon, stick his sim in and it will just go like any other phone?

I'm pretty sure this is the case, but I want to make sure I get the right thing and not a prepaid phone or something stupid. I'm just thinking something cheap like these.

Any recomendations on a durable, cheap dumbphone?

if your cellphone provider users sim cards, in general yes.

you want to make sure the phone is capable of working at the same cell frequencies as your provider uses. i'd also replace a dumbphone with a dumbphone.
