I have an ASUS G60JX, which I have had for several years now, and has worked well for me. I use it for general purposes and do not push it with gaming, although I have used it for some audio work. Recently, I decided to upgrade it, and it is running i7-720Q CPU, 8 Gb RAM, with a 1TB SSD from Samsung, and it runs just fine on this. I recently replaced the CMOS battery on this computer as well and re-seated the CPU and GPU heat sink with a good amount of Arctic 5 thermal grease. The computer does not give me any problems in this configuration.
However, the battery is also pretty much dead and will not hold much of a charge. It may last 15 minutes, to be expected as it is about 4 years old now. I ordered a replacement battery. As per instructions, I inserted the new battery and it had about a 70% charge on it. I was supposed to run it down to 2%, and then charge it back up to 100%. However, the computer suddenly went dead and turned off. I tried to turn the computer back on and it would run for about 15 seconds trying to get to the desktop screen and then again all of a sudden just go dead and turn off. There would be HD activity and screen activity. But then it would just go 'poof' and turn off. I put in my old battery. It worked just fine. So I'm pretty sure it is not an issue with the computer itself.
I thought I had a bad battery. So I returned it, and got another one. Unfortunately the second battery did exactly the same thing. When I insert it, the computer turns on for about 15 seconds and seems to act normally, except that in trying to get the desktop screen, it will just suddenly die and turn off. Nothing I do seems to affect this. If I again put in the old battery, the computer will work just fine without any problems and will last all day, with the charger plugged in of course. I just can't use the old battery by itself because it no longer holds a good charge. But now the computer will not work with any new batteries.
Any ideas what is going on here?? Thanks for you input, guys.
