How'd someone set up the wpa security (or whatever is employed), and make sure the device automaticly connects to the right internet link? the use of the word 'anywhere' from the doctor cited implies it is able to do so. And I can't help but to wonder what'd happen if a black hat would dislike you, and knows you use one of them...

Install one on everyone and internet would soon be much safer, only those who would have proper defences in place would be left standing.

But seriously not all devices should be networked as possiple wrong use that will follow would be deadly. Maybe detachable wireless uplink module that you can use short times when there's special need to remote administration or monitoring or hardwire wireless link to only monitoring sensors and keep control circuit separate, software block is basicly only a speed bump to slow down wrong use so I wouldn't consider that safe enough.
