Hi guys, I currently own the discontinued Logitech X-540 system (with a Xonar DX), which has served me well but has finally developed some faults so I'm ready to get a new system.

I was looking at its successor, the Z506, and can get a good deal on it, but after some research a lot of people seem to be saying that these bundled PC speakers aren't worth the money and that home cinema speakers used with a PC are better value.

I'm not very experienced in this area, so how would home cinema speakers plug into my PC? I'm used to the 3 black orange and green cables my speakers came with, not sure if it would be the same to setup the non-PC specialised ones. Also what speakers would you recommend? I'm on a bit of a budget, probably don't want to go too much higher than £100 RRP unfortunately. I definitely would like a subwoofer, surround sound isn't a requirement though as the speakers will all be put next to my monitor, really I just want something fairly loud and having extra speakers is one way to achieve that ;) And the best quality for the money. These will be used for music, possibly parties, gaming and films.

Thanks in advance for your help :D

I'd have to go search and compare each but i'll try make this simpler.

Were you happy with the x540's? You wont be disappointing with the z506 and it also has a better sub. As for speaker arrangements, just have it set like you did with the x540's.

All Logitech speakers can be set to stereo mode so if you like listening to music, more speakers is better :)

No lol the z506 will do just fine just as your x-540's did. Audiophiles will always side with component stereos which can be costly.

I have a home theater setup to watch Bluray movies and occasionally play PC games with. The PC connects to an AVR Audio Visual Receiver and made easy via HDMI since it can do both video and audio in one cable. Can pick up cheap AVR and speakers sets for under $500, not sure of quality though since you're also purchasing an AVR which probably make the speaker's them selves not any better than the ones you've had.

You probably know of AVR's but anyway this is what they are;

For something like that, a decent AVR would set you back a grand or more just on the AVR, then be spending a good 1k-2k easily on decent 5.1/7.1 speakers to match, then you might make the z506 complainers happy.

From amazon $385 starter pack with AVR + 5.1 speakers. Again not sure how good they are these bundles at that price range, the z506 would probably put them to shame really.

Thanks for the reply! Not going to lie that was what I wanted to hear ;) Yeah an AVR is definitely not practical for me, I don't have the money or the space so I guess the PC speakers are the way to go.

The only question now is that since all the speakers are just going to go next to my monitor, should I get the Z506 5.1 system or just go for a 2.1, maybe the Z533 or Z333? The Z623 is more expensive but looks a lot more powerful, but I don't really understand the specifications. The Z623 has way more watts than the others, and then they all have different size drivers. Haha I really don't know what I'm talking about, just want something of decent quality that can fill the room. What would you recommend?

Cheers :)
