Question Passive speakers without amplifier?

Hi, is it possible to use passive speakers (specifically Im thinking of Polk Audio Signature S20e) without any additional amplifier? Meaning, would the sound be just quiet or would they just straight not work? If some amplifier is necessary, would something like this work? https://us.creative.com/p/sound-blaster/sound-blaster-audigy-fx-v2

^This one says something about "amplifying" headphones, I'm not sure if it would also work on the speakers as well. Alternatively, can you suggest some cheapest thing that would get these speakers to work? Thanks a lot in advance for advices.
