Just got back from Northeastern PA (Wayne County) where Verizon STILL has no
coverage, and relies on a horrible analog roaming partner. Long story short,
I finally broke down and gave up my SingleRate East plan, because I'll need
to use my phone in Florida.

Got a brand-new v60s, real good deal and a very nice phone. Digital
reception seems great, even better than my beloved StarTac. All was well
until we crossed the state line into PA. Then---

Wife's v60i had full bars showing on analog Extended Area system. My new
phone was showing no bars. She could make a call at will, I had to try three
or four times to get one through. Throughout the weekend, same thing. I'm
pissed off and disgusted.

Got home, in a fully digitized area, and decided to try analog again. Her
phone, four bars, fully usable. My phone, one bar, same deal, have to repeat
dial two or three times (in analog).

Waddaya think? Sample defect, or is the v60s inferior to the "i" in analog?

Replaced the phone today. New phone, same deal.

Hmmmm. Guess I'll just learn to live with it.

Try swapping antennas between the two phones -- I replaced the stub antenna
on my V60s with the retractable V60i-type antenna, and I get better RF
performance.

Excellent advice..I'll have to store that one in the old memory banks.
Verizon finally bowed to consumer pressure and started putting stub
antennas one their handsets. Now we know why they where such
extendable antenna holdouts.
The first and last stub I'll ever use was on a startac as a test.
Reception went to heck.

I made the same swap, and I typically see one more bar than my son's
v60s with the stubby.

Worth the $12 bucks...

Yeah, but its not real great when the anntenna is broken either <bg>

Why can Motorola make Nextel phones with unbreakable antennas and make
the V60 with anntennas that break like glass ?
