Just got a Tivo at Christmas. Have been reading past posts about the 30
second skip. My manual doesn't say how to program a 30 sec. skip, so I am
assuming it no longer exists or there is some special coding sequence to do
this. If I can program the skip, where do I find how to do it?

Thanks.

It's best if you do this while playing a recording; otherwise, you
might change channels.

Select-Play-Select-3-0-Select

You'll get a confirming ding-ding-ding.

More stuff like this at <http://www.tivocommunity.com>.

When ever you have a question like that Google is your friend.

Just search on "TiVo 30 second skip"

and right at the top of the list of matches is:

http://www.bigmarv.net/how/tivo30secondskip.html

If you don't want to be bothered by people who use this group (or any group)
for it's intended purpose why are you even here?

Who says that the intended purpose of a _discussion_ group is to
mindlessly answer the same 30 questions over and over again?

Or, put another way, if someone doesn't care enough to (read their
manual|google for their own answer|read prior posts before posting), what
would lead us to believe that they'll even take the time to read our
answers?

You just juvenilely trying to pick a fight. by snipping my answer (AND
IT WAS AN ANSWER).

Original answer in full was:

When ever you have a question like that Google is your friend.

Just search on "TiVo 30 second skip"

and right at the top of the list of matches is:

http://www.bigmarv.net/how/tivo30secondskip.html

NOBODY as far as I know. It's purpose is for people to discuss and share
information regarding Tivo. SFW if an answer can be found elsewhere on the
internet or even in numerous threads in the news group itself. This is the
time and place that the person chose to use.

The fact that they bothered to ask here. I wouldn't think it would even
matter to you if your answers were ever read or not because you seem to
enjoy "listening to yourself" anyway.

Well that is certainly insinuated when you ask a basic question that
could easily be answered with a quick google search.

> It's purpose is for people to discuss and share

And Google is an archive of those discussions. Don't you think its a bit
selfish to expect someone to answer the question 'just for you' when its
been answered hundreds of times in the past? Its not like you have to
read every post to find the answer, google is pretty amazing at
answering questions.

The point here is that in the time it takes you to post a question and
wait for an answer, using a medium that is NOT real time you could
easily with a simple search, which is considered a common
courtesy in ALL newsgroups, have the answer.

Skipping topics that are obviously from newbies is always an option.
