I am trying to put together an article about home recording for one of the
newspapers I publish that goes to the college campuses in Milwaukee.

Because I have limited knowledge on the subject, I was hoping that a few of
you more knowledgeable folk would help out.

I'm going to limit the article to items that are reasonably priced and are
designed to work with hard drive recording. I'm hoping that you will offer
details as to why you like the item you are discussing and possibly good
places to find it at a good price.

I'm particularly interested in:

recording software

plugins (especially free ones or ones with free trials)

microphones ($300 or less and versatile)

mic preamps (inexpensive, but not a waste of money)

nearfield monitors or headphone substitute

I would really appreciate as much detail as you are willing to offer.
Remember the audience. Thanks as always.

Google should be your best friend
all these subjects have been dealt with extensivly here
it should be no problem to pull up a few useful threads in google
or perhaps ask your questions one per post so your replys would be right
to a specific question instead of
"teach me about recording"
Thanks

I just saw that there's a "For Dummies" book out on home recording for
musicians. Maybe that would be a good place to start. Or maybe a music
store. You'll get as many opinions here as there are options, and
you'll never get that sorted out.

Several of the regulars here earn at least part of their living from writing about recording.

Do you have any budget?
