Are you 100% sure there is an actual CD/DVD drive in there?
What is telling you there is one?

Many low price laptops do not have one.

That model should have an optical drive, perhaps it is just a slot that sucks in the discs?

Edit: looking at a photo of this model it does have a tray, the button is very small and fairly far back.
Is the tray obstructed at all? Stopping it from being able to open.

Not necessarily. Some do and some don't. That is an incomplete model number.

"ES1-512-C1PS" would be an example of a full model number. And here is a link to this one, showing there is no optical drive in the specs: http://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/model/NX.MRWAA.029

Oh dear, well that would be very disappointing :(
I couldn't have a computer without a disc drive, not yet anyway...I still have cds, does that make me old? Lol

If you were expecting an optical drive perhaps you should take it back? (Not fit for purpose)

Yup, it makes you old, LOL. :D Me too.

That...is an antique lol probably worth something, or make a great book end ^_^
I have an old motorola Mobile Phone in the attic, it's less brick more briefcase!
Although I didn't buy it new, was a 50p bargain at a village fete lol
