No display, laptop turns off after a few seconds.

As i turn on my laptop, the power led goes up and then without even the internal exhaust fan running or even the hdd being read it goes off after a few seconds. What are the possible causes?

If you could, check the voltage from the adapter, the right voltage is written on the adapter.
