Well, considering how popular Replays are, and how popular this news
group is, and how long they have been around... I'd say NO, there is
not, else we would know about it here by now.

There is, however, a way to do much of what Replay does w/o a
subscription... You do not get themes, you have to schedule each and
every show "VCR Style" this includes both show by show and "Same time
slot every day/week/whatever. What you can not do is, for example, feed
the unit a name such as "Farscape" and have it record every episode of
"Farscape" or "Farscape Adventure" or Some Farscape" (or any show who's
title contains the string "Farscape") That it won't do

But it will download the weekly TV-Listings, and allow you to search
them for shows (much easier than using a paper TV book)

TO do this you need a sufficent computer (My 1.8Ghz Intel running win-xp
does it just fine) and the equivlent of a ATI TV-Wonder card, there is
a long list of "Equivlents" including ati's All-IN-Wonder card and a
bunch by other companies.

You can get these cards starting around $50.00 new and in the box

They do tie up your computer

And will be more susceptible to interference from other programs
running on your computer (especially with Windows 9x). But then, they
could still be worth it, for something free.

YES! You can get around the monthly fee by buying a lifetime sub.
