So tonight my HP laptop [Windows 10] crashed out of nowhere and gave me that screen with the ":(" frowny face and told me that Windows had experienced a problem. The system rebooted and now I have no internet connection.

I was connected via Wi-Fi, and now the computer acts like Wi-Fi doesn't even exist. The only option it gives me is to use Ethernet. No available networks at all. That's right, ZERO available networks. Doesn't even have the icon for me to select Wi-Fi options anymore. Troubleshoot didn't help, just told me to plug an Ethernet cable in.

What in the world is going on?

Solution
HP laptops have a notorious history of failing WiFi adapters, may be yours is one of them, usual giveaway is it's not listed anywhere in Device Manager - not even as an unknown device.

Fix - buy a USB WiFi adapter. That's what I had to do on both my grandkid's HP laptops a couple of years ago. I avoid anything with an HP badge on it now.
