I was browsing the internet last night and then my computer crashed very suddenly to the blue screen of death,

Upon turning it on again, there was an 'X' by my speaker icon down in the bottom right corner of my screen, and when I Clicked on it it ran disgnostics on my audio and gave me the unhelpful message of 'Some hardware might not have been detected".

I went to device manager and couldn't find the sound card anywhere, nor the audio multimedia controller driver.

I tried to install my audio drivers again but nothing happens, the icons are not even there in Device manager.

Is my sounds card dead? Or is this a known problem?

I'm running Windows 8.1 64 on an Asus X555LA laptop.

Thanks!

Hi,

Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Start by reinstalling the sound card driver again.
- Here's the link for the Sound card driver: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/DriversForWin8.1/Audio/Audio_Realtek_Win81_64_VER6017503.zip?_ga=1.264666893.305422646.1455979617
- If it will not work, do run System Restore and restore it to the date before the problem even happened.
- Here's how to run System Restore: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-PH/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc
- If System Restore will not work you'll need to reinstall Windows.
