No sound from onkyo dvd to onkyo avr

No hdmi, just rca. Picture perfect but no sound.

RCA, but are you only using the video component cables or also an audio cable from an audio out to an audio in port?

Check the AVR input set up menu.
You may need to assign analog audio or the specific RCA connection to an input (such as DVD or video 1).
If the DVD also has HDMI you may need to also turn on the analog audio output.
