No sound from reciever

Connected a Phillip tv 5000 series to a Sony receiver using HDMI cable to the ARC HDMI ports .
From the reciever port to Tv and from cable box using HDMI to port on reciever.
HDMI setting on reciever is on and HDMI arc is activated on tv and no sound trough the sound system any ideas?
Called Phillips they can't figured out , they want me to run separate cables to the box and a digital for the sound my understanding is , when you are connected to HDMI ARC you don't need to install separate cables.
Any info will be appreciated.

Do you get sound through the TV speakers if you hookup the cable box directly to the TV? This will help first determine if the cable box is putting out sound via HDMI.

Yes I do get sound on the TV but not from the sound system Sony STR- DH520 .
I had a Samsung connected yesterday Ann no issues.
