If you don't have sound from the DVD player, first check your audio cables, test them with another device, test another device with the TV.

Before I proceed, just want to say that I've received via my e-mail, a detailed reply from 'Tipper_1' besides the one from 'hang-the-9', but no matter how much I try, I can't seem to see the same message on the forum, even though it is not a 'private message'. So maybe something that the forum can fix in the future. So thank you to 'Tipper_1' for the response.
Ok, I have solved the problem by removing the 3 connecting cables from the 'DVD' marked slots on the TV and moving them to one of the available 'Input' slots(one of which has my cable set top box cables, the other being available). Got full picture quality and excellent sound whereas before, as i forgot to mention, i had black and white picture which at times could get mildly hazy as well. So hope my solution will be helpful to others and thanks again to those who replied to this post.
