No sound on laptop

Hello,
I have a sony vaio laptop,window vista. suddenly no sound coming out on laptop and also no sound on headphones but the system stat that the device is working. what happen?can someone help me on this? thank you.

Hello,
Did you happen to hit your mute button by accident. Look down by your clock/system tray and see if there is an icon that looks like a speaker with a red symbol on it. If you do the sound is muted. If it is just double click on the speaker and uncheck the mute option in the next screen.
