Noisy fan Asus

I have a Asus k501U laptop. The fan noise is totally unbearable. I have turned down the max processor state to 30% and switched to passive cooling. This has made no improvement. PLEASE help ... I am ready to unscrew the back plate and tear the fan out.

Well you should check first to see if the insides need to be cleaned out of dust and debris. That can make it run more. If not, you may well need to replace the fan.
